Am i a vegetarian?

Many people has been asking me this question over the years since i embark on my career as a health trainer in the science of Nutritional Immunology, which studies the relationship between the wholesome food and our immune system to achieve health.

I am not a full vegetarian or vegan but we cut down a lot of meat including pork, chicken and fish, cheese, dairy milk, yogurt, eggs etc.  We focus more on wholesome plant fruits and vegetables as much as we can in all our meals.

A picture paints a thousand words.  Following is a newsletter i received from Idealite which advocates wholesome food philosophy as our founder of Nutritional Immunology, Dr Chen Jau Fei.

Since i embark on this career, i have learn a lot in safeguarding my family and friends' health beside growing financially and in personal development.

Being a vegetarian,

  1. We safeguard our health and prevent diseases therefore we would not be a burden to family and friends around us;
  2. We help to save the earth which is explained in the above picture;
  3. We can help create awareness to people around us to lead a healthier way of life;
  4. We avoid cruelty and violence to animals.
If we can love our dogs and cats, why not cows, sheep, chicken and fish?  Why does a group of people condemn others who eat dog meat as cruel while this group of people still eating other animals' meat? Irony isn't it, people?

Can you imagine if we have more people taking wholesome plant, fruits and vegetables,
  1. There will be lesser disasters
  2. There will be lesser famine & world starvation
  3. There will be more cleaner water for people
  4. There will be lesser diseases
  5. There will be higher rate of longevity
  6. The quality lifestyle of a person will be improved
  7. Your future generations will not suffer food shortage
  8. The earth will sustain longer for more generations
We all can protect the environment not just by using lesser air con, take public transport, use lesser water etc, but also through taking a healthier choice of wholesome plant, fruits and vegetables.

Start taking baby steps on taking more wholesome plant, fruits and vegetables and cut down on meat.  Every little effort counts.

Be it parenting our children on how we want our kids to be when they grow up and how to be a wiser consumer in choosing the right food, we must first take the lead.  Children learn through modelling.

Some of my children's Sunday breakfast, oat with plenty of fruits and nuts.

The usual amount of fruit we usually buy each week cost about $50.  They are mainly berries fruits which has high nutrients.  I always buy Brussels sprouts as my mum in law likes to eat.

These are some of our pure wholesome plant, fruits lunches and dinners we had at home.

Who said vegetarian food does not taste nice?  My kids quite love the unprocessed food of salad and vegetarian sushi with our vegetarian soup.  No seasoning in all the food except hand squeezed lime juice for salad, does lime juice considered seasoning? 😁

 I always carry Vegecolor in my bag as i would try to consume more vegetables in each meal.

 Left: Salad and soup from Salad Stop. Right: On course but i managed to find my salad and juice at International Plaza.
 Even when i was down with fever, just plain rice boiled in vegetarian stock, miso paste and 2 sachets or Vegecolor to boost my immunity for self recovery.

Salad from Raffles Place Mrt.

Sometimes my friends would ask me if i would like vegetarian lunch or dinner or suggest more plant base food for me. That's very thoughtful of them.

"The doctor of the future will give no medicine, but will interest his patients in the care of the human frame in diet and in the cause and prevention of disease."

~Thomas Edison

"Drugs never cure disease. They merely hush the voice of nature's protest, and pull down the danger signals she erects along the pathway of transgression. Any poison taken into the system has to be reckoned with later on even though it palliates present symptoms.  Pain may disappear, but the patient is left in a worse condition, though unconscious of it at the time."

~Daniel. H. Kress M.D.

"It is my strong belief that the human immune system is the best weapon - ultimately, perhaps the only weapon - against disease"

~ Jau-Fei Chen, Ph.D, with nearly 30 in intensive cancer research (extracted from Singapore Vegetarian Society).
